Divine Exchange

My meek attempt in writing a poem: (well I couldn't close my eyes until I wrote this down on my journal)

[Divine Exchange]
Today's the day,
where a divine exchange took place,
two thousand years ago,
long before we know.

He went up the cross,
death was the cost.
His life was used as trade.
Oh what a costly weight!

He went up the cross,
with Him sin was on,
Righteousness was what He gave.
Oh what an uneven trade!

He went up the cross,
to do the will of God.
Drank the cup of wrath,
to unite God and men.
Oh what a painful mend!

Love was the only say,
for Jesus to lay.
His life for mine is the only way
For the son of God to pay.
Oh what a pricey save!

Love is the only way
for me to repay.
My life I will lay,
for He has made a way.
Oh what a glorious day!

My limited vocab made some parts of it sound really weird. Owh well... hehe

Good Friday

It's been a while since I last came here! I'm glad I found the motivation to come back here again!

A big part is probably due to the time off I got from work yesterday.

So yesterday was Good Friday and I got a day off from work! I have no work thing to worry about (well I did received a few calls and replied a few emails....workaholic colleagues and acquaintances I have here)

It was a good time off, had a really laid back day, mom came later in the evening, had dinner with her and ran errands with her. Then I head off to PenHOP. When I entered, it was the yet so familiar song that is really close to my heart. "Hear I am to worship", when I heard this song I knew something will stir up my heart tonight.

Alan came up and talk after a moment of worship. It was good! He asked us to write down our confession. To ask God to reveal what is in our heart that we are not aware off. It was what I needed. I started off staring at the paper for a really long time, thinking that I have nothing much to write (I am such a holy person, you know lol). Slowly but surely, God reveal. So much to unpack here. He brought me back to the time where I had a heartbroken moment.  I tried to ignore it by filling my mind with many things (well I was heading to a camp the next day so packing was what I did mostly). However, I wasn't being very productive (packing has always been my forte thanks to the frequent travelling I had when I was in Canada). It took me the whole day to pack and I was no where close to done. I couldn't focus, my mind kept going back and forth between thinking of it and and trying to pack. Finally, in the middle of the night, I stopped everything and admitted to God that I had a broken heart and asked Him to heal me. "Didn't you pray for an answer, this is the answer to your prayer, it's just not the way you were hoping it to be. Just because it's not the answer you wanted, doesn't nullify the fact that it is the answer." was what I received from Him. At that moment, instant peace landed on my heart and after sending a text, my whole heart was at peace and I finished packing within the next 20min! Lesson learned: God can only heal a broken heart if you admit that it is broken.

Anyways a little bit out of tangent but I will get to where I am getting. God reveled that moment I had in Canada and it brought me down to my knees. Not that I had a a broken heart this time but He revealed things that hindered me from getting closer to Him. No matter how good the seed it, it will not grow as well if the soil isn't at its optimum state. If the clay isn't ready, the potter can't make a beautiful clay art out of it. To allow God to work fully in my heart, I had to ensure my heart is open and ready for Him to work with. After writing down my confession, I went down on my knees and surrendered. I believe what we do outwardly changes the heart inwardly as well. I gather the courage to walk to the cross and knelt in front of the cross, tore the paper down and left it at the cross (technically in the confession bin so I didn't litter guys, if that's what you're wondering). The act of surrendering and tearing the confession slip lifted up so much from my heart instantly without me realizing until I went and say hi to a Rachel B. My heart felt so heavy when I entered the prayer room but was so light after that. I was able to worship Him with my whole heart and received revelation when we were called to meditate on a scripture! I felt His presence stronger and my heart was tender again. God is good.

Which lead me to writing this blog. The initial intention of posting a blog was to just post the poem that hit me in the middle of the night just as I was getting ready for bed. *To be continued in the next post. heehee*

Thank you Papa, for making my heart tender to Your words again. You are so so so loving and forever gracious to me. What else can I do other than offering this heart completely to You? I love You and I will glorified Your name all the days of my life. Lord, please hold me to my word and strengthen me as time goes on. I want to finish the race strong and I know that I will if I cling on to You and stay close to You. For You are the reason this race was even possible to begin with. Thank You Papa! In Jesus' name I pray, Amen!

On a side note, I was looking up images to make this post a prettier and easier on the eyes (taking into consideration how short people's attention spans are, I know mine is), I types admit and the definition revealed even more things to me. Hence this side note.

so here it goes!

[Screenshot from Google]

So admitted is defined as an act of confessing something that is true. This is the standard definition that I know off. However, admit also means to allow (someone) to enter a place. So in other words, by admitting our sins, we admit God into our heart. *mindblown*

Gah!

Dear Future Hexen,

Please update your blog as soon as you can, don't delay it!! All those memories are slipping by..

Love,
Present Hexen

All the thoughts that I wanted to write down but didn't complete and have been in draft for the longest time are now abandoned... Tried to resurrect it but recalling some details is hard when I didn't write it down back then.... One of my regrets! So don't forget next time, when there's an update, just do it right away. Be it just a few sentences, be it a two page long entry, just complete it!

To think or not to think? that's the question!

“It is important to define what you want…both of you clearly know what you do not want, but you must set as a goal, things that you DO want.  It is highly unlikely that you will end up with what you want, simply by getting rid of what you do not want.”

When frustrated or disillusioned we know what we don't want. It's more difficult to know what we DO want.

The questions is: What DO I want? I'm too afraid to even ask myself that question right now... Perhaps the fear of greater disappointment when it doesn't work out? Idk!

Article of the day

Raising a Moral Child

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/12/opinion/sunday/raising-a-moral-child.html?_r=0

This article really reminded me and challenged me on how to talk to young children when they are at the stage of seeking for their identities. It helps me to see the importance of words usage in reinforcing their identity. Putting what we want to express in a different way changes the way children interpret it which will influence the shaping of their characters.

On a side note,

How many life skills do you possess?
http://www.buzzfeed.com/leonoraepstein/how-many-basic-skills-do-you-have

Although it's somewhat bias (A few of those skills involve how well can you deal with eggs), it's still an interesting questionnaire to remind you how much more room for improvement do you have.

How to write an update that is in full honesty without sounding over-depressing or over-positive?

This has been my dilemma for the longest time when I'm writing updates to friends and family around the world.....

Nostalgic + Refreshing!

It's been a while since everything...
It's been a while since I......
last update this blog,
last sulk/mourn,
last read a book,
last spending quality alone time,
last reflect on my life.

So..... yesterday came just in time. It was the first day after my 2nd teaching semester ended, and I was alone in the house I rented (Landlady was away for the weekend) without any plans made with friends. It was an interesting experience like I said earlier, it's been a while since I spent quality alone time without having to think about work. So without the distractions of work, friends and family, I was able to fully focus on myself and it felt weird.

In the beginning, it was good! I get to sleep in, stay in bed for a really long time. Then it came. It started of with just a tiny hole and I'd chose to ignore it until the moment I realize it's a small black hole that is slowly expanding, absorbing all the happiness into it and it was too late for me to do anything to prevent it. It forced me to do something that I myself can't believe I gave in to it. I started to pity myself. I started to freak out, thinking about what have I done to myself?! Why did I choose to come back? Why did I choose this job? Why is it so hard to adjust? all the Why questions with really negative answers to it.... to the extend it felt like I was mourning the end of my happening/adventurous life.....yeah that's how bad it was....

So I was sulking and mass texting my friends on how I'm turning into a lifeless working adult (yeah like that would change anything other than making it worse haha) to a point where I got so tired of my own self-pity and sulking I decided to make some changes. YES! Important reminder to self: If you want changes you have to start doing things differently, that's the first step to any kind of change!

so I changed, put on shoes and decide to go out for a walk. I wanted to look for Sabrina and head to the beach together but I forgot which house she's in so I gave up after circling her area for five minute. I did a 40minute power walk and my FitBit increase rapidly from 1 dot to 4! woot woot! I felt great after the walk, explored a few places and ended up in an Indian restaurant, the legendary Arati that my colleagues have been talking about. I bought a lot of food from the restaurant and head back home. Sat outside the house and enjoyed my dinner while reading Tuesdays with Morrie. It's such a good book! With loads of lessons pack in one tiny book. Got a call from Hannah in between requesting for healing prayers. She wanted me to read Psalm 132 to her and declare sickness to be gone. And I did! She felt much better after. Praise the Lord! By the time the sky turns dark, I am halfway through the book! It is a light reading material yet at the same time packed with loads of things that makes you think about your life. I concluded my night with a warm shower and head to bed right after that.

Bring alone is not scary, feeling lonely is the scary part. I realized I'd forgotten how much fun it can be to spend time on your own reflecting on life. It felt great and refreshing! I should do this more often =)

Love,
Hexen Ong

Tuesday: a day with many learned lessons

So, realize that if I were to continue the blog from where I missed will be an impossible job and will make me lose more motivation to blog. Instead, I should just do it. Sometimes, we keep putting off things (at least in my case) because we want to make it perfect when we have more time. However, more time will never happen because everyone has the equal amount of time and if something is important enough to us, we will make time for it.

Oh yeah, I just sounded philosophical there, take that!
*swag

So.... what happened last Tuesday?

I woke up to an early morning presentation, it was a really big 40min group presentation. However, I wasn't stress at all for many reasons. #seniordesensitization is one of them. Well, there have been countless presentations in the past and all these years of practice finally paid off. #efficientfourthyears is another one of them. I had one of the strongest team in my all four years of sch and I'm blessed to be part of it. We pretty much just made a list of things to do and everyone sign up for it. No disagreement, no trying to do everything person (in a more southeastasian term, kiasu), no slacker, no drama (well a little bit, but more like funny interactions). We just met up 4 times and vuala!

Efficiency FTW!!

Manage to catch a word with the TA after the presentation. It was a really good chat. There are so many things that she pointed out about street health. It's one thing to learn it from the textbooks, it's another to apply it to real life with so many variables, context being one of the bigger factors. Been thinking about what am I doing after I graduate. So many uncertainties and helplessness. I felt like God is saying, how much do you trust me? Honestly? I don't know God, but I am up for the challenge. I know I just need to cling on to the fact that You are a loving God and You have the best plans for me.

The Loving God is our Provider
Matthew 6:25-34

After the talk with my TA, I walked past the library to head to the bus stop for my hospital shift. I would usually met up with Mirriam in her cubicle before heading off to the bus stop, but I guess I was late and she left. However, I met Nina!!  =D  After 1 month of missing each other at the bus stop, I can finally see her! Note to self: bring Mango tomorrow  =D Nina is this Venezuelian lady that I first met her at the bus stop. She is a lovely lady. She's always there to take the bus at that time. Meeting ppl like her makes me feel less scared about routine, in fact, it's rather comforting to know what's happening next (Although it was a pleasant surprise to see her last Tuesday! haha). She gave me her email address so I can continue to email her when I'm back in Malaysia. I will never forget the line she always say with a motherly tone when I exit the bus:"take care yeah!" Still remember one of the weeks where right after she said that I slipped, she was so concerned and every time she will look me in the eye and say that making sure I heard her.

Routine is good

Went to the hospital as usual and fed the same lady that I would usually fed. I'm starting to get really comfortable feeding her. Learning her habits and her preference. She loves dessert, she tends to drink a little too fast so every time she drinks I have to remind her to take it slow and don't forget to breathe. When she is licking her lips it means she's ready for the next bite. She sometimes will doze off so I need to constantly talk to her. She's like a grandmother figure to me, feeding her while sharing my day, felt like God gave me a second chance to do what I'd missed when I was younger. She never spoke. However, last Tuesday, when I finish feeding her, she took a deep breathe and spoke softly: "thanks". It took her so much effort to say that and I felt so appreciated. I really really encourage ppl to give more time to volunteering because it taught me so much. It taught me to appreciate small little things that might took a lot of effort from other, it taught me to be grateful, it taught me simple actions has big meanings, it taught me how to show love and express love, it taught me how to understand a person with my heart and observing eyes. I still remember the first day feeding her, I was so clumsy, spilling food all over the place and on her bib. As time goes on, I learned and adjust and now it's almost zero spillage! (ok, you are dealing with Hexen that can fall off a couch because she was trying to place some stuff on the table, broke all the gingerbread houses that everyone made because she was trying to fix one of the roofs here, what are the chances for zero spillage? this is how much I'd improved!!)

The paradox of life: the more you give the more you receive
Only the losers win; they've got nothin' to lose - switchfoot
You find your life by losing it, you win by losing.
Matthew 10:39

Went to the Boys and Girls Club in the afternoon to carry out the final evaluation. The youths were very cooperative this time. They were raising hands giving their feedback on the program we'd implemented for the last 4 weeks. One big thing that I learned in these four years is that different people have different ways of expressing love. One of the boys especially, M, was giving us a headache in the beginning of the program, it's one thing he doesn't want to participate it's another thing he participated by creating loads of trouble. However, last week, I was amazed by how much he learned and how much he contributed in the final evaluation. M missed us and him participating fully in the final evaluation is his way of showing us love. Still remember how the staff was asking us to come back because the youths refused to listen to him but us.

There are different expressions of love,
use your heart to identify it.

Borrowed a guitar from Joe Mills. Unfortunately, they ran out of bags and had to give me the hard case. It was really really bulky. Became a part time delivery guy, took orders from friends that wanted KFC because I was close to one and it was toonie tuesday (it's 2.99, not exactly toonie, more like loony toonie tuesday). I had chicken on one hand and guitar on the other. Walking back was painful. I kept on switching hands to juggle the weight. On the Nth time I switched hands, a grandfather looking guy came up and offered to help me with the guitar. Kingstonians' hospitality are so real and legit. People are really friendly here and I am really blessed to be part of this community. This wasn't the first time people helped me carrying stuff, I remember I was doing groceries once and on my way home, my tote bag broke and I had to drag the bag home. A guy came up and helped me till the bus stop! This is why I love small towns compare to big cities. I know it's fairly quiet in a small town, but it's so safe and people are so friendly.

A small gesture goes a long way.
Like literally, because of his small gesture, I get to rest my arms.
Arrived home without breaking my arms.

Well as you can see, I had a long day, after dinner, I crashed with a mild fever and my housemate, Ryan was so sweet to make me tea. my first year res neighbor, love him to bits. Our birthdays are one day apart too! Just like me and kokomo  =D

We need friends.

Anyways, it's 3:30am now, 3 more hours to my routine Tuesdays!!  =D Looking forward to it.

PS: on my way to the hospital, the sky was filled with birds migrating back from the cold, it was a really magnificent sight, so many black arrows in the sky. Apparently birds flew that way because it's more aerodynamic (don't ask me where I got this fact or whether this fact is true because I have no idea and I'm too lazy to google it up  =P)

Reflection

Looking back, I have been volunteering in SMOLH for the past 2.4 years. In these 2.4years, I don't feel like I'm volunteering at all. I feel like I'm an ever expanding sponge constantly absorbing new things every single time I spend my time there.

The volunteer coordinator, Tania is one lovely mother with strong determination. She started the weight watchers program when I first met her and as the years I spend volunteering with her, she just get slimmer and slimmer! Now she's on her second pregnancy! One thing I gain from volunteering is friendships. You get to know the people there and they are just sooooo lovely!

Tania coordinates my volunteer schedule. I can still remember the first patient she assigned me. See, I really dislike the word patient. I prefer using the word  friend. My friend is just 7 years older than me if I'm  not mistaken. Complications happened during her surgery and the result of it was her  ending up in a wheelchair with very little mobility. I'll probably remember her for the  rest of my life. She is really strong (physically and mentally). From what I recall, I have yet to win a single arm wrestling/thumb wrestling with her. The victory grin on her face is just priceless. She is pretty witty too!

Looking at how much she strive to get better and to not want to disappoint her family, makes me feel like who am I to complain about exams and assignments? It's a blessing to be able to go to classes and write exams! The fact that she's only 7 years older makes me feel that I can relate to her. She's a woman that is at her peak! This incident totally drag her to the valley. Life is so unpredictable, just like popping candy, you never know where  it will pop in your mouth next! =P

She was in a serious relationship when this happened to her. Her boyfriend is a sweetheart and is really really loving. He takes care of her every week when she goes back home. However, it had taken a toll on the bf due to the workload that he has with the commitment to take care of her to top it off eventually cause him collapse psychologically. They HAD to break up.  I still remember receiving an email from her mom wanted us to try to talk to her.  It was so hard on her. Her eyes were dim. All she want to do is to close her eyes and sleep.  It feels like sleep is the secret passage to Neverland. Just when she thought that she can't fall any deeper, a crack open on the ground and brought her to deeper pit. I can't say I fully understand how she feels but from what I can imagine, what she's actually going through must be worse.

Her limitation in speech makes it even harder to communicate with her. I remember her mom telling me how when she first got out from the surgery, the only way she can communicate was to blink her eyes,1 blink, yes, twice, no. Then, she slowly recover. By the time I meet her she can use her finger to communicate while saying a few words once in a while, but it takes a lot of energy from her to either one of it. Talking! I mean, using voice to convey messages, is something so innate in us, yet it takes so much energy for her to produce even a word! Nevertheless, every time she speaks, everyone cheers! You know you are important to her when she is willing to use her energy to talk to you. I was thrilled when she gave me a hug and said: "bye" with a smile on her face. I was literally jumping my way out from the hospital!! Being with her makes me appreciate life more. To not take things for granted and before complaining, think about how blessed you are!

We spent so much time together doing stuff! Braiding her hair, putting facial masks on, hand massage, wrestling, strolling along the hospital, screaming for nurses together, watching shows together, discuss about Prince William and Duchess Kate's wedding, making art, being cheeky...etc, are some of the countless things that we did together!! Being with her is just so much fun, I wish we can invent something that can let memories replay in a live setting, not a time machine, well somewhat like a time machine but more of like a recorder where you playback memories and relive the feelings again.

Regardless of the difficulties she's experiencing to express herself verbally, you can see her expressions vividly on her face. Laugh, cry, anger, frustration, sad, moody, etc.. it's all shown in her face! Except I sometimes I can't tell between whether she's in pain or she needs the washroom. Being with her also taught me  how to read body language and communicate with her efficiently. She's very special, at least in  my heart. I have been with her until the day she got discharged for good from the hospital. Never heard from her ever since, I hope she's doing well. People come people go. Regardless, she left a big footprint in my heart. Thank you for being a significant part of my 4 years life of living in Canada. I love you and I miss you.

"It is more blessed to give than to receive"
Acts 20:35

I wish I can share a pic of her but it will be against the privacy code.
I will be more than happy to show it to you in private.

Do you know that

If you roll yourself in bed with a blanket the way u roll a sushi you can tuck yourself to bed?
This is sooo cool!!!!!!  Living by yourself far from home makes you misses home.

After learning this,

HOMESICK NO MORE!!!!

No this is not an advertising post, I have never read this book before.
Probably never will.
Stumbled upon this when I was googling around.  =D

Never knew such book exist (or can exist). Owh well, this just further prove the fact that thr's no such thing as "owh I bet there isn't a book for this!". Thr's always a book for everything, even a book for poop and a book specially for awesome I should write one myself since I'd discovered my first homesick no more trick: the sushi roll!! (That's right, it even has an awesomely cool name  =D)

Dear Brain,

U have been thinking a lot recently, silly things in particular.
You now have two options:
1) start thinking about the paper ur suppose to write;
2) stop thinking and relax (but get back to work in 30min)
yeah, i lied brain, u have basically 1 option, WORK,

Since you are a smart yet lazy brain, u would definitely go for the 2nd option, ok then,

know something about everything and everything about something - Mr Craig Woodcock

This happened before,

and Hexen, you'd overcome it, this time it will be the same! You will be able to do it!  =D

Lord, give me the strength and wisdom to differentiate what is necessary and what is not. What to say no to and what to say yes to. How to let go and Let You take care of the things that are not meant for me to handle. How to be the joy giver rather than the joy absorber. Give me the serenity to accept things I can't change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference. Teach me how to let go.

To give is to receive. Yet, how can you give when you haven't receive?

Before prayer, this is how i feel,

After prayer, this is how I feel.

I can do all this through him who gives me strength.  (Philippians 4:13)

I choose to hang on to You for I know You will never fail me.

Love and forgive, dear friend, you really challenge me a lot in this sense.

Gah... three assignment due every week is killing me... plus final papers and year long group project...so much work to do...  Stay positive!!!!!  (lol, I type satay in stead of stay just now, guess I am hungry...again!)
Satay positive!!! that would be pretty cool too, eat satay and u'll feel positive. It's like killing two birds with one stone man! (gah I am not making sense again)  XD
The HEXEN is back!  muahahaha

Guess what? I learned a new word today!

Bibliophobia: Fear of books

Perhaps that's something that might happen to uni students, I foresee an exponential increase in this diagnosis in the near future.

They said books are good companions. A good book is like a good friend. They didn't finish the statement: A bad book (I guess a more appropriate term would be, textbook) is like an enemy trying to strangle you when u fall asleep while studying in the middle of the night.

Alert: textbooks aren't your friend, stay away for safety purposes! Read under adults supervision (I would personally recommend the FBI)

On a side note, I wanna swim with dolphins.

Bring me away from those evil books dolphins! I'll be safe in the waters!!
Books' greatest  fear = water *evil smile*

Ok, de-stress time over, back to books *horrow scream while being dragged away by the evil books*

I'll be back! (Terminator determination),
Hexen

Sense of time

Gahhhhh!! I need a better sense of time! Too many deadlines, exam conflicts... Going crazy with the deadlines... Can't believe I got another midterm's time wrong again... Thank God I happen to check the email again and was only 15min late!! Phew! If not I don't even know what will happen....

Crazy times are almost over now   =)  Time for fun!!  =D and also constant work  >.<

I love weekends btw  =)  Looking forward to more fun weekends!!

I'd learnt a lot over the past few weeks, hopefully I have time to blog every single one of it! I want to record it so I wont forget it, but tight schedule is making it really hard!!  >.<

How He love us

This post has been sitting in my draft for a very long time, I feel like completing it today after my quiet time. This happened in the week of Spet 16th during my Navs retreat. This week has brought me a lot of new perspectives. Bumped into a friend who looks really troubled on the bus on Wednesday. I asked her how is she doing and if everything is alright. She started to blurt out everything to me which I am very honored because she trusted me. Things were good after she let it out. However, I received a call the next day from her questioning me why did I tell everyone. I was in shocked. I did not mention anything to the people she said I did. As the matter of fact, I didn't talk to those people at all! I just received a hug from them and I have to leave. I was very disturbed by that. She's been a dear friend to me and with the training I'd received and my experience, the one thing I learn is to keep it people's privacy confidential. What disappoints me the most is when things like this happen she was the first to doubt me. After all we'd been through, and to discover that's how she think of me was disturbing. I am not mad at her or anything, I just realize the need to communicate more. Things are all cleared up not and she apologized for it and our friendship had got closer every since. Being the black sheep wasn't a good feeling. I was sharing this feeling with a friend and her prayers woke up me. Jesus became our black sheep too. What I am experiencing right now is nothing comparable to what He's been through. Yet He still love us. Because of this, I have learn how to love people back when they hurt me. just because Jesus did at the time I don't deserve it most.

In the following week, I had the privilege to be in the same room with the designer of the current Canadian flag,  George Stanley. I got all excited and goes everywhere telling people about it. Didn't get to talk to him like what my friend did when she ran into him in a football game. When we were chatting, she shared with me on how easy it is for us to run around everywhere telling people we met the creator of the Canadian flag. We should be more proud and excited to tell everyone that we know the creator of the World! *mind blown* sometimes, the smallest little things can teach us a big lesson.

Still in the journey on seeking. I don't know what answers I will get, but I know I'm up to something good.
